What is CryoPen?
Cryopen is a form of cryotherapy which is the controlled destruction of unwanted tissue by the precise application of extreme cold. It uses highly pressured liquid nitrous oxide to destroy the tissue quickly and with little residual stinging. Nitrous oxide destroys tissue by freezing the intercellular fluid and forming ice shards and crystals that rupture the cell membrane, destroying the cell. Because it is delivered directly to the lesion, and not the healthy surrounding tissue, it can safely treat lesions on the body, face and areas around the eyes
Cryopen treatments do not require anaesthetic and are a convenient choice for clients due to minimal aftercare.
CryoPen can be used to treat any of the following types of BENIGN skin imperfections:

How long do procedures last?
Although procedure times vary depending on the size and depth of the targeted area, applications still only last between one to thirty seconds. You should be finished and ready to go in a couple of minutes.
How long does the treatment take to work?
It typically takes a few weeks for you to enjoy the final result, but this can vary depending on the size and type of the lesion that you want removed.
What is the downtime?
During the recovery period, you may experience some minor side-effects while the skin heals. These usually include sensitivity in the treated area and possible minor blistering, the latter of which can last for anything between a few hours to a few days. However, our cryotherapy device provides the best protection against blistering. You should always avoid touching or picking at the treated area following a procedure.
Please note that while the skin heals, the area may also appear darker in colour. This is natural and the skin will soon return to your natural tones.
Does it hurt?
Any discomfort with CryoPen Therapy is relatively minimal and fleeting. You will likely experience a slight stinging nettle-type sensation during treatment. This is caused by the nitrous oxide striking its target and only lasts a few seconds. However, some residual stinging may persist for a minute or two afterwards, which is perfectly normal.
How many treatments are needed?
It is impossible to predict exactly , however most lesions require 1-2 sessions, there is a possibility for larger lesions you may require more sessions. For most lesions, cryosurgery is a permanent removal. Some lesions are harder to remove than others. In more delicate places eg the eye area, a shorter freeze time with a repeat procedure may be required to get a final result with the least damage to the surrounding skin. In other instances a deep lesion eg a wart may take several aggressive treatments to get final results
Who is suitable for this treatment?
Our cryotherapy procedures with the CryoPen are quick and efficient, and relatively risk-free. However, it may not be suitable for people with other conditions such as collagen and autoimmune disease and rheumatoid arthritis. It is also not suitable for women during pregnancy, nor on areas that have previously been treated with dermal fillers.
Cryopen is suitable for most skin types although on darker skin there is a risk of permanent damage to the skin causing hypo pigmentation (light areas) and hyper pigmentation (dark areas).
There are certain conditions that many cause problems with healing for example diabetes. A full medical history is always undertaken before we commence treatment.
What kind of lesions cannot be treated?
All melanomas and recurrent basal cell carcinomas. Melanoma can spread by any of several means including local, lymphatic and blood. Additionally, Melanoma will change to a much more aggressive form if part of the lesion is left behind undetected. Basil cell carcinoma is typically spread by local extension and you may need more extensive surgery if recurrence is suspected.

NOW OFFERING MOLE AND LESION SCREENING 🔎
‘Map My Mole’ has been designed by dermatologists to meet the increasing demand for skin lesion assessments.
Dr Toby Nelson, Founder of Map My Mole:
“The aesthetics industry is perfectly placed to help people with skin lesions of concern. Some people want a mole checked for signs of cancer but struggle to see their GP.”
What Is Map My Mole?
Map My Mole allows clinics to access UK consultant dermatologists for an opinion within 24 -48 hours. Images are reviewed by experts in the field, and reports ensure detailed explanations are provided. If a mole is concerning, the dermatologist will inform the patient providing them with a report that can be sent to their GP to speed up any referral.
The dermoscopy lens that captures your concerns has been clinically validated in hospital trials in both the UK and New Zealand. The use of dermoscopy has become an important tool for early detection of skin cancer and improving diagnostic accuracy.
The most common FAQ - Can map my mole diagnose skin cancer in photos?
No not just from a photo. A formal diagnosis of any cancer including skin cancer requires a biopsy and histological assessment. However, the experts can help identify a suspicious mole that might need further investigation such as a biopsy.
Book your screening in the salon if you’re unsure on any moles/lesions.
